I was born and
raised in southeastern Oregon's high desert and its' scenic open spaces. A
serious interest in photography was acquired while backpacking and traveling
around the world in 1972. The symmetry and beauty of nature brought me to an
understanding that this world was not created by accident. My personal
journey and spiritual quest began in earnest during this period.
I graduated from the University of Oregon in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Broadcast Communication. Special areas of interest included still photography, film and creative writing.
My initial fine art gallery appearance was as featured Artist-of-the-Month at the Oregon Sunriver Resort Art Association in 1979. Selection was made a year in advance and 12 artists in different mediums were chosen to display their work on a month-long basis during the following year.
Employed 8 years at Wright Design Associates in Massachusetts, involving multiple creative skills, including photography, design, communications and project management. While there, my primary focus was on consumer package design.
Commercial pursuits have included architectural photography around the United States while on assignment in 1993. I traveled 20,000 miles and shot many natural wonders along the way.
I have received awards of appreciation and recognition from the National Park Service and the Aeronautics and Astronautics professional society for photographic contribution to Project Wright Stuff in 1996. (This project involved photographing the dismantling of the historic 1903 Wright brothers flyer on display at the National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. This allowed complete restoration and reassembly of the flyer, with re-dedication on 17 December, 1995.)
GaiaVisions was created in 1995 while residing in Sedona, Arizona, as a vehicle to showcase Paul's natural photography. He returned to the Outer Banks of North Carolina (OBX) to continue capturing the fine essences of sea light just as he did during his stay in the desert Southwest. After a brief stint as a long haul truck driver, Paul relocated to his native Lake county, one of the most breathtakingly scenic and serene areas of southeastern Oregon. This move has provided Paul with an"epiphanic" surge to further expand his multi-faceted creative talents. In addition, it has given him an opportunity to reconnect with his roots.
Paul was selected as the featured visionary artist for the annual Expo
'96 at the community Convention Center in Sacramento, California. His work has been shown in approximately 200 establishments in the west
and around the rest of the United States including book stores, art galleries,
gift shops and many other unique venues.
